Meaning Making

We are always making meaning of our lives, whether the day-to-day pieces or the (in many ways unknowable) sum of it all. The frameworks we use, whether consciously or subconsciously, to make meaning, are ones we have been given or if we are lucky, gifted. 2022 for me has been a year of reflecting on how I make meaning of my life, on what I do professionally and how I live personally.

In this motley collection, I share these thoughts, which are works-in-progress from conversations, reflections, reading and listening to new and old material -- books, articles, podcasts, comics and more -- some of which I will share along the way. This writing is in many ways cathartic for me, and I hope it is of some use for you.

The aspects of life that have been top of mind for me have include:

a) What does a good life mean (the question of whether our world is a fundamentally good or bad place may not be one with an answer but it is one that I ask many around me).

b) What is community in these times? What meaning does belonging have?

c) Life is messy, and in gallows humor terms, fatal. What does this messiness mean in the context of our real day-to-day lives?

d) The big question of purpose: who gets to have it, what does it mean, and is it a grand-slammish thing?
